In what cases are you entitled to damages?

Any time there is an event that causes a real damage to things or people, for which a third party is responsible.

In case of a road accident, only with slight material damages, it is necessary to make the adverse party sign the CID form of Public Liability Insurance (RC) of your car or, if it is possible, a guilt admission. If damages are substantial, it is necessary to ask for the intervention of the Road Police or the Carabinieri or the local Police Officers in towns (Carabinieri telephone number: 112, Emergency telephone number: 113, First-aid emergency telephone number: 118).

You should always write down:

• the name of the driver and the name of the owner of the vehicle involved in the accident,

• the type of the vehicle that ran into you, the number-plate and the policy number of the Insurance Company of the adverse party (in Italy the insurance card must be shown, by law, on the windscreen);

• if it is possible, write down also the names and addresses of witnesses, if any.

If the damage is caused inside hotels, restaurants, shops, in a plane, in a train, in a ship or in a boat or while doing a sport etc, the accident must be immediately reported to whoever in charge in that moment, writing down any data that may allow to find the name of the company or the person who will have to pay for damages. If there are witnesses, write down their names and addresses.
